Title: A call for battery moderation: We own more battery-powered devices than we can maintain
Post by: Redaktion on September 23, 2025, 20:24:45
Take a look around your home - chances are, you'll find a surprising number of devices running on rechargeable batteries. From phones and laptops to Bluetooth speakers, electric toothbrushes, and handheld gaming consoles, the list just keeps growing. But here's the problem: Batteries need care. They need to be charged, discharged, and - most importantly - used regularly. Otherwise, they deteriorate. And with so many battery-powered devices lying around, keeping them all in good shape is becoming increasingly unrealistic.

Just wanted to say thank you and I agree. Forced obsolescence in the form of non-removable batteries is bad for everyone, and "vote with your wallet" has exacerbated the problem instead of fixing it. I hope more of the world can follow the EU's example here.

Manufacturers/corporations are concerned about revenue, and the appearance they aren't harming the earth or the consumers they sell to.  Beyond that they will not consider, unless forced to.

Asking people to check batteries or buy products that preserve the earth will fail unless it's forced from the top down.  The EU seems to be doing this.  China, too, to some extent.  The U.S. is moving backwards in many regards.  Everywhere else doesn't have political sway/organization.

You even admit it in your article.  You won't change your habits unless the change is the only option.

Thank you for setting an example with this article. I wholeheartedly agree and hope this topic gets more attention as we continue into a battery-dominated future.
