Volkswagen is taking a significant step forward in electric mobility with the introduction of the MEB Plus platform and the switch to lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. These innovations promise not only cost reductions but also improvements in range and durability. The ID.3 will be the first VW model with LFP technology available in Europe.

If VW is still putting capacitive buttons in their cars, I won't purchase at any price.

VW... Using LFP... Why did it take VW so long?

Other brands have been using them for several years already.

I'm not sure what's more embarrassing: The author thinking switching to LFePO4 is revolutionary, or that it took VW so long.

When I saw the headline I naturally thought, wow they must be adopting solid-state batteries earlier than expected. But no, still dinosaur tech Li Ion batteries

Aren't others already moving beyond LFP? LFP is nice but hardly revolutionary.

Electric cars are not practical for long trips. The new solid state batteries will be better.  But unless they can travel 800 miles on a charge and recharge in one hour a 1000 mile trip would take 3 days if your lucky. Plus the battery must last 15 years or more and not cost $20,000.
