Title: 6G speed record shattered as Keysight and NTT achieve 280 Gbps with sub-terahertz frequencies
Post by: Redaktion on June 17, 2025, 22:15:06
Keysight Technologies, in collaboration with Japanese telecom giant NTT and its subsidiary NTT Innovative Devices, has announced a new world record for wireless data transmission. The test, revealed yesterday, achieved a 280 Gigabits per second (Gbps) data rate using sub-terahertz (sub-THz) frequencies, proving there is potential in sub-THz 6G networks.

Of course, we did not mention the all important distance over which this performance can be achieved.
Sub-traahertz radiation is strongly absorbed in the air and humidity and temperature all negatively affect transmission. At best, you can get transmission distances of 100m and realistically less. This sounds utterly useless for telecommunications, where even 5G suffers terribly.
