In fact, since when Linux (or any operating system for that matter) is considered not to be "harmful"?
So essentially Microsoft has adopted the Apple "Walled Garden" method.
Here unless the software is from a known publisher and of a known quantity it won't be executed.
Surely the 'digital signature' or CRC of known software components could be calculated and stored so that changes (IE: infections) could be detected before execution. That technology has been around for DECADES but has never been put to use.
I guess when you have an OS that allows any application to write ANYWHERE on ANY of the accessible storage's you need to resort to jumping through hoops to keep the system "safe".
As a software developer, what a pain in the arse. Windows continues to eliminate the things that make it a better development target than apple.
