The question isn't how safe are these, it's when will the first injury/death be?
Cameras and LIDAR make a double redundant system. They fill in for the limitations of the other technology. What Musk is trying to do is use the bare minimum to cut costs. This is purely a business decision, and has nothing to do with safety. Rain, sun glare, low visibility etc. All render camera based FSD totally useless and there's nothing that can be done to get around it without adding radar or LIDAR into the mix.
We've all seen the videos where tesla's FSD can't see and react to unlit objects in the roads, and killed a family man by driving him into a crashed truck.

I drive every single day in NYC on my new Model Y. It handles rain, at night, on roads with aggressive drivers, pedestrians, bikes, triple parked cars, you name it. Stop believing the hatestream media and wake up. This tech is life saving.
