If its Steam player count is any indication, Doom: The Dark Ages is not meeting expectations. Fewer gamers on the marketplace are anxious to play it than with previous titles. A high price may be leading players to subscribe and download it on Xbox Game Pass instead. https://www.notebookcheck.net/Doom-The-Dark-Ages-lags-behind-Doom-Eternal-Steam-player-count-at-launch-with-price-a-concern.1018479.0.html
Since the price is so high everyone I know has flocked to Gamepass to play the game on PC, or those that own an Xbox are playing it already.
So it's not steams fault but the pricing
I love doom, and I won't buy this game becausae of how Mick Gordon was treated, Hugo Martin is a scum bag
Another big issue is that is playable only with raytraycing cards. Many people with non RT cards wanted to play but they were badly surprised they couldn't.
Hmm. Play on gamepass that im already subbed to or buy full price on steam? For a game that might get 20-30 hours of my time.
Such a hard choice

Sure. Valve is deciding about everything, the devs wanted the game to be priced at $0.99, but that evil Valve...

Yep. This idtech engine, which was praised as "it would be so much better and more performant than Unreal Engine", provides the exact same crappy performance and exclusion of non RT cards.
