Title: The Galaxy S25 Edge shows Samsung has run out of ideas
Post by: Redaktion on May 10, 2025, 23:59:45
What do we really get when the main selling point of a gadget is "thinness"? Samsung will ask consumers to pay a lot for the new Edge smartphone, but consumers aren't getting more for their money.

This is why I've been calling them Samesung for years. Innovation died with them after the S10.

I still have my S21 and absolutely nothing they done since has appealed in the slightest. I'm moving to Oppo most likely next year.

Everyone missing the point of Samsung making a thin smartphone. This does not mean Samsung has ran out of the ideas, it's actually the exact opposite. Samsung is laying the groundwork to  make thin or thinner devices the norm, as smartphones OEMs are making plans to possibly move on from the slab, bezels, and glass of today's smartphone. With AI being embedded in these devices and new battery technology continuously in development, Samsung is envisioning for a thin, but powerful future flagship smartphones in their entire lineup in the future. Their will be no Edge branding in the future because all their flagship devices will be thin devices.

I moved from Samsung after S10 .. went back for a short while for S23 Ultra, but ultimately other brands became my go to again. Camera is important to me and Samsungs are good, but I prefer my Honor Magic 6 Pro.

Samsung is playing a dangerous game with this S24 edge 🤔 they went to thin and the battery paid for it 3900amp lmao are they Krazy or what. I'm sorry I was a tried & true MOTOROLA GUY at one time, but they just can't get they're crap together with OS & SECURITY UPDATES AND SUPPORT 🤔 it's a shame because they're making some really nice phone here lately but they need to bump up the updates and security support or they won't go any further then 3rd. Bottom line I feel Samsung dropped the ball on this S24 edge 🤔 I just bought the pixel 9 and it's great so far and 7yrs of OS & SECURITY UPDATES 😁

Samsung could have used the Silicon Carbide battery technology to fit a 5000 mAh battery. This would have easily solved the problem of the price tag. Yet, Samsung being the greedy ones decided not to use this. If this phone doesn't sell well, reviewers are gonna blame that compact phones don't sell well. But one of the main issues that plagued the compact phones has been their poor battery life. I still believe that compact phones could become a trend if Samsung has put its heart into it. They have the best marketing budget to convince people to buy anything.

What we wanted: iPhone mini, Xperia 5 modern alternatives because every phone is a big slab of a phablet now.

What we got: Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, iPhone 17 Air, and other chinese competitors trying to follow the suit 🤡🤡

This misses the point: the phones while persona is based on being thin. There's no groundwork there. Unless they can bring out a better performance than the ultra line or better battery life than anything else they put out, this is water materials. The only thing that has ever come out of thin phones is complaints about worse thermals. Mr. Bagnell is right. Absent any innovation or improvement, thin design is a sign that they are just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks.

Actually it was the S25 Ultra which showed that Samsung has now stopped innovating and caring. The Most Disappointing Release By Samsung in recent years. All other Flagships are now ahead in every aspect except One UI

Do you guys remember the golden era of Samsung that ended ?

New accessories. A sliding landscape keyboard. A gamepad. More ports. So much could be done with those machines with the power of a computer. Yet they don't and stay with that annoying simple rectangle of glass they all go with.

To be fair the original "Ultras" from Samsung were all thin phones. The thinnest.
Samsung U100 aka Ultra 5.9, the thinnest phone at the time.
A time (2005-2010) were Samsung really tried bold and unique designs. Certainly not around 2020, were phones were already samey slabs.
