Dell has shown off two new workstation-grade laptops, the Dell Pro Max 16 Plus and Dell Pro Max 18 Plus. Both support up to 256 GB of CAMM memory, 12 TB storage and come with an Arrow Lake-HX CPU and an RTX Pro 5000 Blackwell GPU.

I wonder what 1440p would refer to in context of the 18" model. Since the render appears to portray the same standard and welcome 16:10 aspect ratio as the 16" version, my best guesses are 2304x1440 (actual 1440p 16:10) or 2560x1600 (1440p 16:9 extended to 16:10).

In any case, I yearn for a stronger emphasis on correlation between size and resolution increases on part of panel manufacturers and laptop makers. If the 16" version can sport 3840x2400, why not a proportional 4320x2700 for the 18"?

While it's true that either resolution constitutes a step up from other large notebooks with lower pixel densities, such as the Vivobook 18 (1920x1200) and certainly older 18.4" devices with 1680x945 resolution, it is this very size class where we ought to expect the first challenges to the longstanding 4K limitation in laptop displays.

Perhaps, though, we must first appreciate the long-awaited 4K 16:10 OLED panel with a refresh rate greater than 60Hz which we find in the smaller of these two units, or the improvements to efficiency and longevity that the tandem layer composition sets out to deliver.
