Title: Zeus GPU from Bolt Graphics claims 10 times the performance of an RTX 5090 and comes with upgradable RAM
Post by: Redaktion on March 08, 2025, 22:01:51
Startup Bolt Graphics claims its new Zeus GPU will outperform an RTX 5090 by a factor of 10, and comes with features that would make a consumer card turn it its grave. With a specification this crazy, you'd be forgiven for thinking April 1st has come early.

similar to flowcharts of Ventana Veyron V1; but have we ever seen these chips yet?

I smell a scam, or at least a pre-mature April fools joke. You can't build revolutionary GPU with just a few people in a small office at Plug and Play Tech Center. And currently I even doubt there is more than one person involved in this project. I also high doubt that any start-up can afford production capacity for 4nm, which is technology that is supposed to be used for their Thunder cards. Thunder is not yet produced and since it was  supposed to come up early 2025, I guess that the hype bubble is about to collapse soon. But feel free to surprise me.

Its not impossible, GPUs are kind of jack of all trades. If that isn't a GPU but a FPGA or ASIC meant to run very specific tasks only, then you can get 2.5 - 10x performance at lower power.

You can also I guess pick a task that eats up a ton of vram and by including more vram, on paper in that specific task you would get much higher performance than a gpu forced to use regular ram

Otherwise, highly unlikely unless you skip silicon and move to light based tech or something

There is always a lot of risks with startups gobbling up investor money and then vanishing, which would be sad for this GPU, because it would be my dream to find a new consumer grade card around the $500 to $1000 with some kind of upgradable VRAM, be it DDR5 SO-DIMM's or CU-DIMM or a GDDRX-whatever daughter board, im just sick of replacing an entire grapghics card to get more VRAM, when my existing GPU is still perfectly fine for my needs.

Sounds too good to be true!

Least we forget about the never mentioned since China startup which came up with a 'GPU' that 'outperformed' the best that Nvidia had to offer by >1000x!!!

Again, possibly single task, however much like 'Team Blues' late entry into the GPU market, merely having some silicon in 2025 is not an entire solution.

The silicon AND entire driver stack needs to perform competitively to be of any value to anyone.

:)

Performance is literally off the chart.

There used to be SLI motherboards to support dual GPU configurations. Apparently this GPU supports dual motherboard configurations
