Title: Enough with the cheap screens, Lenovo: Low end screen of ThinkPad E14 Gen 6 should not be a thing anymore
Post by: Redaktion on February 20, 2025, 18:31:05
Lenovo continues to outfit its affordable E series ThinkPads with bad screens. This really should not be the case in 2025, and it also shows that Lenovo does not really understand the target audience for this series.

Yeah, every time Lenovo does this, I say I'm going to move on from the brand. But then they release the P14s Gen 5 Intel with proper thermals, a large battery, fast performance, and a gorgeous 3K IPS wide color gamut display and I'm like abuse me more.

Clearly this iteration of the E14 gen 6 is meant for corporate drones slowly dying in a cubicle somewhere.

It is for these reasons that i decided to buy a tablet for office proposes instead of a laptop.

Also much higher brightness.

The thing about that is, corporate laptops always had a large premium on them. And to so called "keep prices down" have traditionally had bad default screens to upsell better ones.

Their market audience is corporate who order in bulk with no/little input from the user. It is only recently corporate pcs had started having 1080p screens. Until recently, they were 720p/768p despite 720p/768p being long gone from the regular consumer market.

I actually disagree with this take. Bought the Gen 5 mainly for work as an engineering student and have been perfectly happy with the base model screen even for watching content not just study and design stuff. Wouldn't have paid much more for a better one even in hindsight.

The problem is once you compare it to other screens you'll know that it's trash. I got an old L390 and it's a decent screen because it's the yoga version but compared to my OLED. You know which one is gonna be better.

And as an engineering student, to not be geeked out or bothered by it... Do you even Eng?

Legion series isn't much better. I'm on my 4th screen in my 1.5yo Legion 9 and it's still doesn't work half the time.
