Title: Software update renders popular Samsung Galaxy smartphone unusable, leaving customers with potentially high repair bills
Post by: Redaktion on December 20, 2024, 01:22:47
According to user reports, an update is causing massive problems with a particular Samsung smartphone. Samsung is reported to have asked customers to pay for the problem, which appears to be the result of software problems, at least in some cases.

This happened to me, the update happened then when I tried to charge it came back with an error.
I took it to the samsung authoriser repair location and they slammed me saying I must have dropped the phone and it needed a new mother board.
They wanted 670 usd to repair.

Yeah, Android is known to be completely infested with viruses. Not. My backup phone is old Nexus 4, works fine, old software (Nougat), zero viruses or any issues whatsoever. You know, don't maniacally download every random s*** that claims you've just won a new iPhone 16 and 1 Bitcoin and you'll be fine.

Btw, gotta give it to Scamsung to have this issue with bricking phones by their own official updates - since the days of Galaxy S3 (and that was back in 2012!). Clowns.

What version is this referring to? I have an update that downloaded and has a status of "Postponed" because I have less than 20% battery life. I'm not sure if i should even bother with it. It's from this morning.

I had this happen too! My phone went into a boot loop and I worked tirelessly to find a way to fix it without losing everything on my phone. The article said someone was able to fix theirs. How can we find out what they did? Has anyone else found a fix? I still have that phone and it would be nice if it could work and I could retrieve what is on it.

This happened to me as well. I take very good care of my phone never dropped it and always have it in an otterbox case no cracks on the original screen and still the original screen protector on it. Yesterday after I downloaded the update while I was using the phone galaxy S22 the screen just turned to large green stripes and went out. The phone was still on and if in my car I could make calls through the car but could not see anything on the phone screen, the flawless uncracked screen just went out. It cost me $240 to have a new OEM samsung screen installed on it. I think they do this to force people to upgrade to the S24 so their not stuck with a large inventory of S24's cuz they know people are waiting for the S25 to upgrade. So my choice was loose all my info in my S22 and upgrade to the S24 or spend money on a phone to repair it after their update damaged it in order to get my info/data out of the phone even though I will be getting the S25 in a month. Honestly it makes me want to say screw samsung and get an IPhone instead.

The real question is why tf are you people paying to fix a problem Samsung created? It should be the company's responsibility to fix their errors. It's like buying a new car and the engine give out after just 2k miles. Would you pay to fix it or take it back to the deal and tell that mf to fix it?

Dear disgruntled Samsung users,

Genuinely curious, what made you go or choose Samsung in the first place?

As someone who'd not touch anything by them with a 10' pole, I just can't really fathom the underlying reasoning behind such a decision.

What's worse is I know only too well the whole ordeal will repeat itself once many order the s25 next month. Just why? You'd think people would have learnt something after 14 years of mistakes.

I have an idea. Give consumers the option to OPT OUT of updates. You can turn off MOST updates but the manufacturers still FORCE monthly "security" updates. then when your phone STARTS acting up the consumer is left paying for repairs or new phones, it almost feels like INTENTIONAL issues in order to force consumers into the newer more expensive models.

I had this issue on my S22 Ultra, WiFi stopped working and it continually rebooted the phone. The phone was 5 weeks out of warranty and I got quoted £450 to fix it by an approved Samsung repair centre.
Called Samsung, they extended the warranty collected the phone,  fixed all the issues and sent the phone back good as new at no cost.  Super annoying but can't fault the response from Samsung.

Using the S21 Ultra since the day we could pre order it.
I was waiting for the pre order date to upgrade to the S25 Ultra.
After reading this in starting to think that samsung is no longer the way to go.
Off to research the competition.

My s22 ultra seems to have escaped these problems. It's still running strong. I do have a friend who has the same phone and ever since the the UI 6.1 update they have severe crackling speakers on theirs. It seems to be a random thing.

I don't think its just the she's i have a flip 4 and it started having screen issues after the update in sept. I had to start leaving the phone open or it would take an hour for the screen to be usable. It would get calls and messages, but the screen was blacked out. After this last update, it updated, I watched the screen it was lit the whole time, and when it booted back up the screen went dark, and its stuck on the login screen, which I physically have to put my pass code into to boot up.....and I cant. Its been a week and all I've been able to use it for is an alarm clock.... for preset alarms

I know a person that installs pretty much every gambling game she is presented with.  Her phone is riddled with malware, I presume, because her bank is constantly blocking her card transactions, as well as notifying her that she has her info pilfered.

I offered to clean her phone.  No dice.  Not interested.  Her phone gets all the updates as they are pushed, she even installs them.   Not sure of iOS, but Android is a Shitshow in terms of protecting the user.  Or is it?  This person doesn't mind, as long as she gets her gambling fix.  NOTHING will convince her otherwise.

My S22 just stopped taking calls and texts a few weeks back with no prior issues or accidents! I had to buy a whole new phone.  Now I'm wondering if this was the reason.

I too believe forced updates should be illegal. At minimum there should be a way to actually turn off, not just "postpone" updates x amount of times until Samsung feels you've postponed enough and can't do it anymore thus shoving it's update down your throat..
I've seen far too many times the "take old bugs out, put new bugs in" updates go horribly south. So I prefer to let new updates go out into the wild for about 3 months to see how stable they are and what possible issues need to be addressed. I actually voiced my reasoning and questioned the motive behind forced updates as another example of how I don't actually own the expensive device I paid for if I can't choose how to use it. For that Samsung shut down my Samsung Forums account and banned me for life. I no longer use, recommend, or repair/service Samsung devices. Glad I dodged this bullet and all the future planned obsolescence tactics of the tech tyranny. Wish you all the best in your pursuits to lost privacy, forced updates/upgrades and rediculous price tags.

I used to consider Samsung an option for mobile devices but Samsung's software update bricking and destroying devices, denial of the problem and instead letting endusers pay for expensive repairs convince me to put Samsung on my Black List. May Samsung buy its own products!

I have an S22 Ultra

End of Oct it turned off whilst wireless charging in the car, then went in to a boot loop
I tried the advice of putting it in the freezer which did let me clear the cache but I took well over 100 more hard reset attempts to be able to wipe the phone
With the phoen wipes it carried on boot looping,  progressing to the welcome screen, shutting down and going again.

Having looked online and found a sea of users having the same problem, it was clear one UI was to blame.
I believe that power users are hit, as the motherboard gets cooked, mine is in the car on wireless charge, running an android auto app and providing a hotspot to the Tesla, for a 70 mile each way journey, it's been fine till they updated me.

I was in warranty and reached out to technical who are a joke, I spent 2 months trying to get the phoen sorted and when it finally hit her repair company who are a contracted agent in the UK then started another 2 weeks of them trying to change as by then the warrenry had expired.

I got extremely frustrated, with technicals low English and terrible response times not going it get sorted, I had to evidence everything, corrispondemce, proof of purchase etc to the management of the repair company.

Having returned a multip thousand pounds 65" Samsung OLED did to faults and also returning a £1500 sound bar as the rears kept disconnecting and it kept falling over attempting Atmos, combined with a mid range Samsung sound bar calling out lihdly and randomly "Network disconnected" which research shows to be another known fault, this will be my last Samsung product,  they are market leading but the warrenry, support and product reliability is pathetic.

Amazingly as a cover phone I used an old note 9 (the note 10 I had also went faulty) and it was great, it's smaller, lighter, apps work with the same pace, the very annoying WiFi to car constantly dropping on the S22 Ultra or refusing to connect at all was not a thing on my Note 9, in fact the other things that are better are display and camera and i'm not overly sure the extra weight and thickness are worth it.

I'll use this tell it does, then I imagine I'll move to Google, I know it's not as top end but they are all capable of doing what we need now and I'll favour reliability and some customer support ongoing.

I have the same problem. I have a Samsung Galaxy S22. My phone has never been dropped or has had any water damage. One day while texting, it turn off and started looping. I took it to the Samsung Store. I was told the mother board was no longer working. The repair cost was $500. I paid $1,400 for this phone, this is unacceptable. Samsung should repair these phones.

Never buying a Samsung again!!!

That is a really crappy situation for you all as I type this from a Samsung S22+ with the culprit update installed and device working better than ever. Why do I say it this way? Because you all are blaming Samsung for an issue that belongs to your phone carriers. Their software is to blame for ruining your phone, not Samsung. How many of you are with a phone service provider that has undeletable software added to your device? I have not one piece of Meta's (Facebook) software on my phone and once I rooted every single piece of their data from my device, Samsung's true brilliance in device creation was unleashed! You see, Facebook and certain phone service providers deemed themselves more knowledgeable in how the inner workings of your phone should operate than Samsung; they are in reality, far from. Samsung believe it or not, not only knows best but offer a slew of features that those crap companies are suppressing and keeping from you because that means you will spend less time using their app and services. Facebook is the WORST about this and will have you believing that your battery is bad, processors have become slow, and have incompatibilities that are beyond repair. You fell for it. Let Samsung back in control of the very expensive device you bought from them and don't allow a 3rd party company tell you how to run software or how to fix it. Seems some software that isn't Samsung's has shut off your device's temperature safety feature. Did you even know that all Samsung products have that? I didn't until I ripped every byte of Meta software from mine. My phone now messages me and alerts me of the temperature being too high and then proceeds in remedying the situation all on its own because that's how Samsung created their devices to act! So no, they should not be paying for the fix they did not cause as they have it built into your phone to PREVENT this from happening. Maybe you should be asking Facebook as to WHY their software is turning this feature OFF on your device just so you stay on their app longer, endlessly scrolling until it literally melts your motherboard. Well that's my suggestion anyway in ways of assistance over your $1k devices that you allowed 3rd parties to destroy. I know I'll be off today getting lots of work done on my FULLY FUNCTIONAL and even faster than ever before S22+ and checking out Samsung's DEX software by turning this versatile device into a PC! I can't wait and expect to be wowed yet again by my 5 year old device. I hope you all can start putting your anger towards those that are deserving of it this holidays and don't let Facebook or other 3rd party companies to continue destroying your bonds by misplacing your anger at them like you have with Samsung.

My S22+ was dropping to the lockscreen and bugging out the screen when using the back swipe gesture. Turning off "predictive back animations" in developer options seems to have resolved it.

If you put your RAM plus on 0(off), and allow unrestricted battery use of camera and one UI it seems to really clean things up...or at least it fixed my s22 ultra I've had since release day
