Researchers at Georgia Tech, led by Hailong Chen, have developed a new iron chloride (FeCl3) cathode material that could cut lithium-ion battery costs by up to 40%, with commercial availability expected within five years.

Within 5 years is huge. Can't wait to see how things unfold in the EV industry

LFP cells are already dirt cheap. U$ 40-50/Kwh

A lot of other battery tech is projected to arrive within the next 5 years. Like - solid state and improved classic chemistries.
It is kinda concerning that the article does not talk any performance numbers. That can make or break new tech if it is not competitive.
We are currently in battery price downward spiral but only due to oversupply from china. That can stop dead new tech in it's tracks for years to come.
