It looks as though the long-awaited GIMP 3.0 release may be soon upon us, with the GNU Project announcing a string freeze for the latest developer preview build. Between overhauled colour management tools, a refined UI, and, finally, a simple stroke selection tool, GIMP 3.0 is looking to be a big release for the free, open-source Photoshop alternative. https://www.notebookcheck.net/GIMP-3-0-Free-Photoshop-alternative-to-add-5-massive-new-features-in-upcoming-final-release.877760.0.html
Ive been using the newest beta release for a while now, and things look great! The only sticking point is that I can't edit text boxes after a transformation has been applied, which is a bummer.
Performance is still terrible so all their updates are irrelevant. Photoshop and Affinity Photo 2 are absolutely flying on the same PC but this thing is performing like a drunk tired snail.
would be great to have generative fill that runs locally :)

What do you mean by generative fill? Like Krita's Colorize Masks?
