Title: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X BIOS update could pack massive performance improvements thanks to new 105 W TDP
Post by: Redaktion on August 15, 2024, 21:17:27
A leaker purports that AMD will soon introduce a firmware update for AMD Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X CPUs that will nearly double the default TDPs of the CPUs from 65 W to 105 W. This comes after AMD's Ryzen 9000 CPUs received largely negative or mediocre reviews for minimal performance improvements over Ryzen 7000. The new TDPs will supposedly be included in AGESA 1.2.0.1a Patch A.

Ahh, a play right out of Team Blue's playbook...

So while the Team Blue chips COULD outperform the Team Red chips if the power was cranked up to use much more than the AMD chips here we find the AMD chips lacking in performance and AMD is employing the same tactic.

It will be interesting to see who comes out on top of performance per watt?

Hilarious comment. The 7600X and 7700X are 105W TDP, so returning the 9700X and 9600X to 105W TDP is what they should have been to start with. AMD is nothing like Intel who were pushing their cpu way past silicon limits with ungodly voltage.

This is so true. I can understand fanboyism if they have significant money invested in corp stocks, but without that it is just silly. Corporations are not your friends, although some people are ready to die for them, while no one from those corporations is even aware of the existence of those same people...

As an example (almost comically) Apple has come out a number of times claiming they wished their fanboi's would just 'go away'. :)

And for those that are not following 'performance per watt' denotes not only energy use but cooling requirements and often space.

"ohh opps!!! we released a bunch of 'gimpped' products by mistake" LOL!!!

What are the cooling requirements of machine with 115 cinebench per watt.
