Title: StarBook 7: Linux-based laptop now available with Core Ultra 7 165H and 4K Matte display

The Linux-based StarBook 7 can now be configured with Intel's new Meteor Lake chips. Key specs include a 14-inch 4K screen, up to 96 GB RAM/4 TB storage, a 65 Wh battery and a variety of Linux distros to choose from.

Wow... that's a pretty steep Linux tax - over $700 for a N200/8GB laptop...
one more reason why Linux has a hard time to be more than a niche OS for desktop..

The only reason why Linux is a niche OS is software support

Don't get me wrong, I really like Linux and would like to switch to it as my main OS.
But none of the software I use are available/supported, and WINE is just not an option.

What software do you use, microsoft office? I think it's about the only one not ported yet.

The real reason why Linux is a niche OS in desktop is because most laptops don't offer it as an option. If every laptop came with a linux option that is $50 cheaper (saving on windows licensing), it would easily take over.

As for software support? Over 90% of the population only needs a web browser these days really. But over 90% of the population isn't going to bother installing their own operating system
