Title: Google to bring Windows app virtualization to ChromeOS thanks to Cameyo acquisition
Post by: Redaktion on June 07, 2024, 08:16:21
After teaming up last year with them to bring legacy Windows desktop apps to ChromeOS, Google is now acquiring Cameyo. This move will benefit all ChromeOS users who still rely on various Windows apps by taking installations and updates out of the picture. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

That's funny because most ChromeOS devices sold to date are low-end laptops powered by Mediatek chips. Surely these won't be very good at emulating ANYTHING.

There are a lot of x86 celeron chromebooks too. That said, I will point out that this seems like cloud streaming of apps. So the processor on the computer is irrelevant as virtualization happens on the cloud.
