One problem with high-performance batteries in electric cars is the highly flammable electrolyte. Together with the light metals, which are difficult to extinguish, this results in a dangerous combination that could be broken with aqueous batteries, and not just in the event of an accident.

If only technology with water in a battery could be quickly produced and proven to be reliable.  Oh wait... LEAD ACID!  What a concept?

Well besides the fact that lead is lead: lead acid battery chemistry has worse energy density than even NiMH batteries and they aren't effective for supplying stable voltages over long periods of time and they charge very slowly. So no, not really a concept because it's already been tried and it doesn't work well.

600 Wh/kg? Correct my if I'm wrong. But that is like an extremely good result. This is twice the energy density of current mainstream NCM batteries. Granted this is likely achieved in a laboratory setting. Still the wording in the article kinda made it look like not a big deal.
