Title: Sodium battery for energy storage goes into mass production
Post by: Redaktion on May 03, 2024, 15:54:17
Natron Energy presented its battery cell back in 2021. Now the market launch is set to begin on a large scale. The performance data of the new type of battery is very remarkable.

Glad to see sodium batteries mass produced, but Europe really needs to set up the game too!

China is way ahead of everyone, and Japan is upping their game to try to catch up (look at this: https://uk.motor1.com/news/718094/battery-sodium-ion-solid-state/ )

Energy independence is certainly the way to go.

Less than 1GWh a year is very little..

BYD's sodium battery plant will have 30GWh of production capacity

BYD has the advantage of being their own supplier. That means if others don't buy it, BYD will use it in their own products. In comparison, Natron has to find clients

On top of that, Natron is reusing the same equipment and factory that was before used for lithium ion batteries which lets them put up the factory quicker and cheaper. Aka, low hanging fruit with high ROI

If it works out well, they can always scale after

Ok sounds good, what is the cost, say 20 kw/h
