Title: Computers without transistors or silicon: 2D magnets with superior properties
Post by: Redaktion on April 10, 2024, 20:44:40
Transistor open or closed, 0 or 1, that's what a microchip is based on. With a newly developed two-dimensional magnet, a completely different circuit enters the playing field, which has a lot to offer, especially in terms of efficiency.

Hmm so needs a crap ton of rare earths. Sure if price is not a concern and you don't wonder why things are known as "rare" earths then it will be wonderful in 20-40 years when it becomes a thing.

No. The actual amount of rare earth materials is actually minuscule. Today's circuit boards already contain rare earth metals. But the amounts are so small that it is not even being recycled. Only gold is being extracted. It is not like batteries or electric motors that require a lot of the expensive stuff.
