Title: GOG and Amazon Luna announce partnership: Play DRM-free games via the cloud
Post by: Redaktion on March 22, 2024, 16:03:02
DRM-free titles from the Good Old Game store will soon be added to Amazon Luna's manageable cloud gaming library. Conversely, Amazon Luna games will also be available DRM-free on GOG.

Drm free. Via the cloud. That's gotta be the most stupid thing I've heard this week.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's to reduce server costs. Maybe hosting their own servers cost them too much, especially when single titles (like Baldurs Gate 3) already need 100gb. Maybe it's cheaper to host games on Amazon Cloud...

You misunderstood, they aren't saying the cloud games are DRM free, the opposite. They are saying that games that are DRM free are the ones being hosted

If the title is DRM free, they need only buy 1 license of the game. If the game has DRM, it complicates things as you would need a new license and sever per active user.
