Title: Unusual solar farms on wasteland such as landfill sites, golf courses and car parks due to lack of space
Post by: Redaktion on March 07, 2024, 11:34:48
To ensure a successful energy transition, more and more large-scale solar farms are being installed around the world at a rapid pace. However, solar power generation is a huge space-intensive process. For example, an area the size of 550 football pitches is needed for a current 200 megawatt project. Landscape architects and designers are getting creative and using brownfield sites, such as car parks and landfill sites, to create photovoltaic installations without taking up valuable space.

Landfill sites are obvious rather than unusual as many (at least in the UK) have existing grid connections associated with landfill gas powered generators.

Maintenance may be higher as the frames the panels are mounted to move as the landfill settles.
