Lenovo introduced the newest members of its ThinkPad laptop family for business customers ahead of CES in December 2023. At the trade show, the largest PC manufacturer showed off both the premium clamshell ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 and its convertible counterpart, the ThinkPad X1 2-in-1.

"The ThinkPad logo is no longer a sticker, as it has always been up until now."

Nope, typing on my X1C9 now. No sticker there.

Meh. I did not get a sense of the design, just details. I'd like to see their research on the pen garage. Separate pen is a disaster. Guessing most people just use it occasionally, others can get a larger accessory pen. Or just make it an add-on altogether.

Regardless, they need a top end convertible with an AMD chip, it's obviously a case of partnership over best choice for the consumer.

Of course the ThinkPad logo is a sticker/decal on the X1 Carbon G9. The glossy black texture of the logo is not part of the case.

"Huge" redesign:
- "new markings on many important keys"
- "ThinkPad logo is no longer a sticker"
:)

However, it looks like Lenovo continue to remove what was good about their machines.  The click and lock keyboard has gone, then the 1.5mm travel, then the micro-SD port, and now the pen-silo.  Take a good design and make it gradually worse to save money seems to be the Lenovo approach, and pretend it's an "improvement".  At least they learnt their lesson with the terrible touch bar in the 2nd Gen - something that Dell have yet to realise with their XPS.

I also have the X1C9 - it's an embedded sticker.

I don't think there will be one.

The T440 was not a haptic touchpad. It was a trackpad without physical buttons.

I wish they'd drop the USB-A and HDMI ports and give us more USB-C. Every other laptop I've had over the last 4-years has been USB-C only. If I had to plug something USB-A into my laptop or HDMI, then there would surely be a dongle/adapter available.

still no AMD ?? Why stick to intel? I'm longing for a top of the line AMD 7840 thinkpad 2in1.

Literally the same can be said for USB-C. Ditching USB-A and going the Dell route wouldn't be just a major joke but also a disaster and a big middle finger to business users, and ThinkPads are business machines primarily.

Because the X1 line is being designed and developed in partnership with Intel (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/partner/showcase/lenovo/overview.html).
