Title: Pricing of Acer Swift laptops with Intel Meteor Lake CPUs gets exposed
Post by: Redaktion on December 03, 2023, 07:48:21
German retailers have started listing the upcoming Acer laptops powered by the latest Intel Meteor Lake CPUs. Specifically, they come with the "Core Ultra" processors, the first laptop CPUs built on the Intel 4 architecture. As for the pricing, the variant with Core Ultra 5 125H is listed at EUR999 (US$1088), while the laptop with Core Ultra 7 155H has a listing price of EUR1249 (US$1360).

"Intel Core Ultra 7 155H CPU with 16 cores and 22 threads.

The latter will sport the Intel Core Ultra 5 125H with 14 cores and 18 threads."

Intel issues meaningless CPU names with meaningless numbers of cores and threads, and the NBC journalists repeat the meaningless CPU names with meaningless numbers of cores and threads. Instead, they should inform us about numbers of P cores, numbers of E cores and TDPs!

True. But to be honest a description like 6+8+2 cores would also be meaningless for most people. It took me quite some digging in hardware and benchmarks to see the meaning behind them.

To add some results of my digging (even though most probably know already):

P-Cores is the bestest and fastest, and the ones we all want. Unfortunately we only get 6 of them.

E-Cores are worse, and it said that it takes 4 E-cores to make up 1 P-core. Nevertheless gaming benchmarks have shown they are useful, because with E-cores the minimum framerate and 1% lows is higher than when they are disabled.

Hyperthreading is now the worst: while Hyperthreading can process 2 different tasks on the same core, each one only gets half the speed. This was useful when CPUs only had 4-6 real cores, because Hyperthreading prevented it from getting clogged. But now with CPUs having 10+ real cores, this isn't required anymore. It would be better if tasks would be distributed to real cores instead. In fact most benchmarks have shown that Hyperthreading slows down gaming performance, and when you switch it off you'll get better performance.

Also a meaningless number, unrelated to actual power consumption.

Want to see the performance and real comparisons against the new Zen 4 Series 8000 and please without manipulation and Intel briefcases in all media.
People are impatiently waiting for what surprises the AMD 8000 SERIES will bring us, improvements in performance, consumption, power and artificial intelligence. AMD has already been with the Zen 4 7040 Phoenix series for a year and we still haven't seen anything from Intel.
The product that everyone is waiting for is miniforum V3, a 3-in-1 tablet, the first manufacturer that will compete against the Surface Pro.

"The product that everyone is waiting for is"

- a Windows-iPad

- a notebook with a keyboard of desktop quality

- a silent notebook with 4080 speed

The keyboard (with numpad instead of touchpad) and GPU were reasonable but the rest was not my taste:)

You can flip touchpad on that one upside down and in turns into a numpad. )
