Title: AI weatherman: more accurate, faster, more opaque
Post by: Redaktion on November 15, 2023, 21:52:36
Trained with 40 years of weather data, AI has found a shortcut in the calculation of weather forecasts. It produces prognosises with the same accuracy, but with a fraction of the effort.

False.

Ironically, the ECMWF predicted heavy rain with thunderstorms for today in my location, but nothing happened. Shortly after this, it changed to no rain. So, when we talk about accuracy, the ECMWF is not accurate to begin with.  It serves as a tool that aids human predictions. Unfortunately, all weather models fall short of achieving absolute accuracy, and that's wont happened even in the future. which is why meteorology exists to solve any errors and make better forecasts.

I've been in this field for about 7 years now, and I believe AI has been here for the past 7 years to solve all the complicated mathematical past data and provide insights for the path of hurricane events.

This seems more like a cheap marketing strategy to boost their value, as AI is a prevalent thing nowadays.

False.

It is false that it is false, but maybe where you live the weather has not changed on average. Here, in Berlin, Germany, it has.

Or someone told you it has changed. Our short lifespan doesn't let us fully comprehend if it really did change or it's just a long cycle. There's no clear consensus in scientific society, despite media will tell you otherwise of course.

Historically these theories never lasted long. In 60s it was "new ice age coming by 2000", in 80s "ozone layer going away by 2020" etc etc. Now we laugh reading those articles.

I always suggest watching George Carlin's "The planet is fine" just to calm down a bit. )

I have talked about my local weather, which amounts to at least a local climate change with effects on vegetation and animals in the garden.

As to the global development, stop denying the climate change! (However, this is the wrong forum for detailed discussion.)

Weather is not equal to climate.

Either you question all those or you also stop questioning ice age by 2000 and ozone layer disappearance by 2020. Has to be a single standard of critical thinking or none at all. )

Therefore, I have used whichever word applies correctly.

OT.
