Title: Nintendo Switch 2 backwards compatibility could be limited to certain models according to new rumor
Post by: Redaktion on October 15, 2023, 21:50:12
A new rumor concerning the backwards compatibility question for the Nintendo Switch 2 has surfaced, and it won't please fans if it is true. Once again, there is the suggestion that there could be multiple Switch 2 models at launch time, with backwards compatibility not necessarily being available across the board.

You have to wonder if they have simply misunderstood the situation and that all it means is that you need to buy the version with a cart slot if you want bc to also apply to physical media, it would needlessly antagonising their audience to restrict it further than that.

Two versions? (one with and one without a physical cartridge slot?)

That MIGHT make sense given that most OEM's are steering users to 'digital media' where the OEM have some (or ALL) control of the market.

IMHO: there are 2 reasons a user would want a cartridge slot -

- make use of cartridges they already own
- make use of the fairly robust 'used cartridge' market

IMHO: the new device would need to offer features and access to very attractive game titles for me to be interested in a updated Switch vs one of the many handheld PC type gaming systems currently available.
