With all the flaws Mediatek has in their processors, they will need all the benefit they can get from the 3 NM process.
Processors are becoming more powerful and consuming more and more. And smartphones still last less than a day from charge to charge with active work for at least 8-10 hours, especially in the background, performing complex tasks.
