Title: Silent Tesla Semi trucks run long and far as Pepsi tips how fast they charge on 750kW Megachargers
Post by: Redaktion on August 05, 2023, 11:24:57
It takes less than half an hour to top up a Tesla Semi electric rig to 95% battery capacity on the dedicated 750kW Megacharger stations that Pepsi uses for them, says one Semi driver. The trucks run for 12 hours a day, according to the beverage giant, while some go on trips that are as long as 450 miles.

Funny cause gas powered semis don't need as long as the pump and can drive 2,000+ miles in harsh conditions. As even just building evs and green tech for California's plan would need to see 3 times more mining and oil production just to build the stuff...

Truck drivers can only drive 12 hrs per day long haul and have mandatory breaks. The general rule is 500 miles per day for a solo driver.

So even the 45 min charge time to 95% is great to fit into a drivers schedule and breaks.

If you have a team driver, they still need breaks and refuel. Refueling takes 15 minutes anyways

So the fast charging will work if the network is built out for general freight.

Very remote and extreme weather is a different story

Amazing leap forward and looks very promising.

Focus should be on fleets running day trips as PepsiCo to start and learn

Pepsi is hauling potato chips 450 miles in good weather?  Wow, exciting.

Seems like really solid progress. A route that would allow Tesla to run from Freemont to Austin would be nice,a chance to mainstream what was a pipe dream .

But how much load are they carrying?
Couldn't find the answer anywhere.

Fantastic progress on green transport, well done Elon 👏

New solid state battery technology is going to improve this entire industry, adding a huge increase in the convenience even further in the coming months and years to come by reducing the charging time considerably!!

Keep up the good work Elon @Tesla!

$31M in taxpayer money for 21 experimental trucks that haul less freight for less distance(impressive NOT). Does anyone here understand how much 750 megawatts is. We will have rolling blackouts in every part of America!

It helps if you know the difference between a 750 kilowatt charger that is called a "Megawatt Charger" and something that uses 750 megawatts. Thus, because most of us read the article and know 750kW is 1,000 times smaller than you are erroneously claiming we are indeed not worried. Especially if such substations are supplemented by local solar or wind power (likely as part of the station)
