Apple could be looking at an under-display Face ID implementation starting with the iPhone 17 Pro in 2025 while the iPhone 19 Pro will mark the arrival of a true all-screen iPhone. Apple is also speculated to extend under-display Face ID to standard iPhone 19s in 2027 while retaining a selfie camera punch hole. Meanwhile, the entirety of the iPhone 17 generation will transition to 120 Hz ProMotion displays.https://www.notebookcheck.net/All-iPhone-17-models-slated-to-get-120-Hz-LTPO-panels-in-2025-first-under-display-Face-ID-to-debut-with-iPhone-17-Pro-followed-by-true-all-screen-iPhone-19-Pro-in-2027.706378.0.html
So standard iPhones might abandon holes in 2029. If LTPO is flicker-free with a ratio of at most 16:9 and not too big, display-wise this might be the first year I can consider buying an iPhone. Of course, it is very unlikely that Apple will overcome its other objections already then and not have introduced more.
