Title: VW wants EV buyers to pay for self-driving mode only when they use it unlike Tesla's expensive Autopilot extra

Instead of adding autonomous driving software as a US$12,000 extra to your electric vehicle when ordered, Volkswagen wants it available as a metered service payable only for the time it's been in use. The add-on strategy is Tesla's with its Autopilot mode, while Volkswagen says you can set the car on self-driving for the next 50 miles and only pay for that stretch.

Are you really that clueless? Tesla already has a subscription model for FSD. Owners can turn the feature on (or off) for USD $199/month using the Tesla app.
