With so much frame, why would you need a notch.
The design is charismatic, but not thought over very much.
I don't think History will remember notches kindly. Like a Zip drive from the 90's, it fulfills a niche request in a way in which technology will quickly solve and we'll wonder about that time period as "why did we ever put up with such a compromise?"

What an interesting iPad dock that would make. Pop in the iPad and the ports are ready to use. I think it would sell well, actually.
