With the Vostro series, Dell primarily targets small businesses that want to offer a good compromise between performance and cost. Our 14-inch Vostro 5490 even has a dedicated graphics card, but the fan control is not well developed.

I have the Vostro 3420, and it's fine as a computer, but it is in NO WAY a laptop. The thing will burn your legs/lap. I can't believe how incredibly hot this thing is. They came and replaced the fan, but it made no difference. This is a portable desktop, maybe. But if you ever think you would use it in your actual lap, forget about it. Horrible.
