The Australian device-repair YouTuber Hugh Jeffreys has posted a new video that seems to demonstrate that this is also true of the recently-launched iPhone 12. The device's UI and cameras exhibited anomalies in response to a motherboard switch.

lol, I think it's been known that many recent (<2y/o) Apple parts need to flash a specific code upon installation to be identified as "genuine". Corporate greed, of course.
