It has been rumored that Apple is busy working on improving the highly controversial butterfly keyboard that the OEM utilized in laptops such as the MacBook Pro, MacBook, and MacBook Air over the last few years. Although more recent models have been fitted with scissor switch keyboards, it could be that the butterfly keyboard will reappear in the future.

Courage. They must be courageous, courageous enough to not only double down on their mistakes, not triple down, but even quadruple down on bad ideas after seeming to sensibly walk them back. Yes, that is obviously what this shows. Fourth time (reversing the course reversal after the third failure) is the charm!
As someone who is regularly using both Magic keyboard (iMac) and Butterfly keyboard (macbook pro) - butterfly is my favourite by far. Much crispier click point and firmer keys.
Yes it was repaired twice in 3 years (free of charge both times). Would be happy to see it again if Apple can solve reliability problem.
For a company as large as Apple, this seemingly minor issue has sure taken long enough. I'm guessing they're not really investing much R&D to this, it would be impossible to take this long if they threw enough money into it, money that they certainly don't lack.
