Title: Asus ROG Strix Hero III G731GW Review - a colorful laptop with compromises
Post by: Redaktion on July 29, 2019, 10:12:41
Asus' new ROG Hero III G731GW packs tons of features, lots of lights, and a powerful RTX GPU into a well-built and well-designed chassis. A few annoyances make the G731GW fall short of perfection, but the overall package is excellent.

Absolutely no reason not to have have TB3 built in to a $2000 laptop. Especially when the chip costs less than $10 and overall implementation would change the price little.

I understand skimping at the $1200 level. $2000+ is unacceptable.

Was this run on turbo mode?

Those decibels are ridiculous. Is the Y740 the only option for noise-conscious gamers this gen?

Hard pass on this , no Gsync, no TB port , extremely loud fans when gaming , very expensive , no thanks.
There are much better and cheaper devices than this ASUS has steadily gone down  hill with new laptops.

Why are the DC outlets on so many new laptops on the rear? Its an absolute nightmare having the wire twist towards the back when you're using the laptop in bed.
I like my outlets to be on the left or right sides so that a power socket (usually somewhere beneath me) can hook up easily to my laptop and charge it while I work on it without putting undue strain on the wire.

I have this lap top for one month. Really great device :) i7 9750h with defaults have temperature about 88 - 94 c in gaming. I do some undervolt - 70 mv for core and - 70 mv for catche, after that in Battlefield V (for example) temp is about 86 - 90 c and after that i underclock turbo boost from 4 Ghz for all cores to 3.5 Ghz and now temp is about 81 - 85 c. Little drop in performance. maybe about 5 - 10 fps in all games. Everything above 3 ghz will be enough for gaming. Just do this when buy and everything will be cool than :D Screen is perfect, case also, keyboard is great, only speakers its not really loud, and miss strong bass.

Asus Rog Strix Scar III (G731GW) user here. having problems with DPC Latency, measured with both "Latency Mon" & "DPC Latency Checker", couldn't solve the issue... (I bought this for working on Unity & Ableton) I will never again buy any other laptop. (I noticed something is wrong because of "pops, stutters & glitches" using internal / external audio interface and using any audio source) Very very disappointed for all the money i gave.
