Paid enormous amount , $ 1497.00 for Samsung S20 Ultra phone with promise of $ 200 certificate for Samsung products. Physical Store  in Boca Raton Fl., closed . Microsoft online store will not honor physical store contract. Loyalty should be a two way street. I have been a loyal and now stupid customer for over 40 years. microsoft leaves me no option for my loyalty. Samsung has advised me that it is Microsoft obligation to honor their promotion. So here I am two multibillion dollar companies that can't honor the $ 200 promotion which was not cash, but only usable toward another purchase!

I considered the Windows Store to be completely useless for a while, but more recently I've been checking out some games from time to time. Might not be that useless, after all. I don't think Microsoft will take out anytime soon, but it would be nice for it to offer a higher amount of usual apps.

Excellent!!! This would be the best news I have heard since July of 2015. And, hopefully, sooner than later. UWP and DCH garbage need to be nixed. That trash never had any place on a PC. It has been especially harmful to gaming. Micro$lop needs to stick to the basics... focus on what they used to do best... no-nonsense Windows and Office minus all of the telemetry cancer and worthless bloatware. It might be too little, too late. I'm already investing myself heavily into learning to be a Linux expert, as I am fed up with the garbage that has emanated from Redmond's posterior orifice since the release of Windows 8.

UWP to the original "Metro" apps, is what Cecilia Giménez restoration of "Ecce Homo" is to the original fresco.

Remember, this is happening because Satya Nadella wants it this way. He wanted to fire 1,000+ designers and engineers. He didn't care about Windows Phone. These are his personal choices. He's fine with Microsoft not having anything to their name, except Office, Xbox, and Azure.

Now, need I remind that a different attitude is possible? Perhaps under a different leadership...

This article is BS. Uwp is not just the windows store. And not just portability between phones and desktop.

With the new .net 4.7, win32 and uwp will blend seamlessly.

I understand UWP is basically worthless and offers little to anyone, why they even pursued it is beyond me. A huge waste of money by them.

The issue is what happens to things like Realtek's UAD drivers? They use the UWP Realtek Audio Control, everyone would need to revert back to HDA drivers?

Same thing with Intel's VGA DCH drivers, the interface for that is a UWP.

I heard DCH was replacing normal driver support going forward, it can't if there is no UWP for the driver to control anything!

Even NVIDIA has DCH drivers that use a UWP now.

Oh well maybe they all abandon DCH too?

The Universal Windows Platform created for the Microsoft Store apps could soon be ditched, as Microsoft already discontinued support for its Windows Phone devices. App developers are reluctant to create programs for his platform, since it is much easier to program apps for Android, iOS and even Windows through regular win32 code. Microsoft may completely remove the apps and keep only the games, music and video section.
