Would love to see a test to confirm this too. Also allegedly Xiaomi K20 (Mi 9t in Europe) has hardware DC dimming.

I'd love to see you guys test this, too. Xiaomi's demonstration video still shows a tiny bit of flicker on the DC dimming phone, and I wonder if that's anything to be worried about. I'd love to use an AMOLED phone, but my eyes hate PWM, and if this is really 100% flicker free, I'd buy a Mi 9 immediately.

Yes, I would also really appreciate it if you could update your PWM test to see whether any flickering is present throughout all brightness levels. I may consider buying this phone if PWM is completely eliminated.

Flickering be gone! Xiaomi has replaced PWM with DC brightness for the Mi 9 with latest MIUI Beta update. DC brightness does not cause OLED panels to flicker like PWM does, which can cause eye strain and headaches for those who are PWM sensitive.

This is amazing okay! But how do we know certainly it would not flicker at every step of brightness?
I mean i have problems with PWM! I cant even stay on device using high like 10k or more! I just can use DC dimming devices or just 0 pwm!
Noteboocheck your reviews are always amazing! I would love if you can update us with a test on the MI9 of this dc dimming!
Also if you can do Meizu 16s, MI9 SE! Thanks!

I was about to ask the exact same question. As I am aware this is done on the hardware level and cannot be fixed with a software/firmware update.

I could be wrong though...

I can't believe one could just go DC with a firmware update, could one just flash the panel's firmware like that or...?

Could you please test this to confirm, whether it really is flicker free.
