So you used a laptop with a 15W "u" processor against laptops with 45W "H" processors and it scored worse? Big surprise.
Why not connect the eGPU to one of the laptops you used for comparison and disable the internal card. Then you might actually get a fair test. Of course egpu performs worse if you pair it with a crap processor.....

Great review and perfect for my situation.  I have a matebook x pro with 8550u and 2 lane Thunderbolt 3.  Would an xps 15 9570 make a big difference with the 2070 box?  I have this version you reviewed and thinking about getting something with better processor.  It's not my main machine but would love to maximize the box performance.  Thanks so much!!

Did you test with an external monitor? Or did the signals go back and forth trough the Thunderbolt 3?

So, did you run any monitoring tool while benchmarking to find out where was the bottleneck? Could it be LPDDR3 RAM? Was it CPU cooling? Should we blame it all to thunderbolt3?
Those questions are very important for someone in the market for laptop and egpu.

Gigabyte has outfitted its super-small external graphics dock with a mini GeForce RTX 2070 graphics card compatible with most Ultrabooks. Naturally, we run every benchmark we could to see how the Aorus eGPU solution compares against a traditional gaming laptop. The results are more variable than we had initially anticipated.
