The reviews here seem quite negative? just bought a T490 and I'm not disappointed. Great keyboard, great performance, got it with 8gb ram and upgraded to 16, new bright screen (400 nits, thank god!), and quick face scan. Everything is great except one thing, the trackpad. probably the same as on the T480 but my god, it is like sandpaper? If they insist on making a plastic trackpad, at least treat it so it becomes smooth!
Anyway, searched the entire internet, and this was the only pc that made sense to buy.

Hi. What's your thoughts on the choice of Li-Po battery over Li-Ion on T480 ?
I'm really concerned about this. I can understand the legacy issues related to li-po batteries may not be applicable anymore, but I couldn't find any proof of that.
- Quid of lifespan over Li-Ion ?
- Quid of leaving the charger on for days using the machine ?
- Quid of leaving the laptop unused for 2 weeks at 100% ?

Can you please shed some light into this?
Many thanks

To me it seems that they made almost all the right  decisions for the t490s. Except that i would like to have upgradable ram (but in reality i never upgrade).
Too bad it is just too late: because of unclear prognoses when or even whether there would be a t490s, and what the specs would be, i just bought a Dell-XPS (which is nice but is much less robust).

Crappy 16:9 aspect ratio.

I'm sure its not Lenovo's intention, but for those who don't absolutely need a built-in WWAN modem the L-series is starting to look very good to those who still prize what the T-series once was.

Unfortunately, it's also missing Thunderbolt.

My T500 is over 10 years old now - and given that a new device would also live 10 years, I would prefer a device with built-in Thunderbolt .... if I would buy a new one today.

Also a negative point for me: in the T590, you still only get a 2xx nits FHD display. I don't need UHD - it's to expensive for me, I don't need the resolution .... the T490 gets a better FHD display, but the T590 not .... s***.

Two steps back and three steps back.  Nothing good about the T-series anymore.  Lenovo would rather follow Apple instead of being unique.

I'm really disappointed by these decisions, the T490 is now much less attractive to me. You basically have an ultrabook with a trackpoint, I'd rather buy a notebook with a 3:2 screen, which is way more business oriented than an ultrabook with black accents.
I was willing to pay 1.7k for a T-series, now I'm seriously thinking of buying an E-series for nearly half the price, or finally ditching the ThinkPad line.

I'm sure its not Lenovo's intention, but for those who don't absolutely need a built-in WWAN modem the L-series is starting to look very good to those who still prize what the T-series once was. Sure, the build quality isn't quite the same, but a modern L (with two DIMM-slots no less) is still a good step up from many older Thinkpads, where the latest T-series models would be too much of a compromise to many.

As many have already pointed out following the initial rumours regarding the Tx90 models - they already had the s-variant for the ultrabook crowd. There was no reason to kill the T-series completely. I'm not sure anyone really knows what the point of the s-variant is anymore.

Side note: What the f*** is Lenovo thinking by getting rid of lift-and-lock on the X390 Yoga? Why shouldn't I just get an L380/90 Yoga with better RAM options now?

What was Lenovo thinking when they brought out the new T-serie ThinkPads? The reasons why people like me buy a ThinkPad are: the replaceable keyboard, fully upgradeable RAM, fully upgradeable storage, overal structural quality, ergonomy, typing comfort and a good I/O. With the T490s the RAM upgradeability and the replaceable keyboard are removed. The T490 and 590 have just partially upgradeable RAM. I have always been a loyal ThinkPad fan, but Lenovo is forcing me to think about other options.

I wonder we will be able to swap the new low-energy FHD panel in older models. They're all eDP now right?

Yep,  I'm very glad I didn't wait for the new models and recently picked up a p52s (aka T580 in workstation clothing)...  I'm quite happy with the machine apart from my T560 batteries not being compatible.

Without power bridge I really don't have much use for the T series.   I'm sure there view is that with fast charge and generic usb-c batteries there isn't a need for powerbridge.   They are wrong.   If nothing else the 74wh battery greatly improves typing angle and increases airflow at the same time.    Without it the notebook quickly becomes an also ran in my book.

At MWC 2019, Lenovo has announced five new ThinkPads. The three new T series models ThinkPad T490, T490s & T590 are supposed to win over business-customers with new designs, thinner bezels and better displays.
