If the combination of cpu, gpu  cores may slowdowns that sounds not too practical when compared to an npu use. Not a fan of creating a unit for every kind of use, but in this case the use of a dedicated unit seems the best compromise. However the 3d scan of fingers is very practical, it should have been the solution since the beginning of fingers readers.

lol, as I predicted, just as SD845's combination was faster than Kirin970, Qualcomm could achieve higher machine learning performance in the 855 without an NPU.

During the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii, Qualcomm officially announced the new Snapdragon 855 high-end mobile platform. Details are still sparse, but the main focus lies on an improved AI engine, the first computer vision hardware in an ISP and the possibility to attach the dedicated X50 5G modem.
