hmm, not sure what you mean by eGPU since the Y7000 doesn't have TB3 so not sure how you can use eGPU.  or do yo mean the internal 1060....

I actually find the Y light in the lid annoying and while upgrading mine to 32gb, i was trying to find a way to open the panel around the lid hinge to see if i can find a separate power ribbon cable.  but couldn't get the panel around the hinge removed yet...

I got this laptop about two months ago. The one with I7-8750H and 144HZ display 16GB ram.
here are my remarks for now.
Pros:
- The display is amazing, very bright and accurate .
- Slim bezels.
- pretty fast cpu. for normal usage.
- quiet for normal usage.
- the keyboard feels good although it could be better .
- eGPU is good enough to run the big games and VR .
- SSD + HHD  slots.
- easy to upgrade parts.
- the placement of the ports at the back .
- the design . you can take any where without screaming "I'm a gamer" .
- very light compared to other gaming laptops I tried.
- I like the backlit logo .
- battery life is above average .
- the price .
Cons:
- when I first used it, while gaming at high graphics Far Cry 5 and Just Cause 3. the battery drains fast even if it's plugged to AC. I checked the Lonovo website, the y530 have the same problem .
I  had to install Lenovo nerve center, Lenovo Vantage  . now I can game without worrying about the battery, there is a long thread on Lenovo website about the battery Issue. especially if you have a low WH power adapter.  the best power adapter is 170Wh
- came with 150.54 Wh Ac adapter .
- the power adapter is very hot while gaming.
- the keys on the keyboard are not very protected, it's easy to get thing under them.
- I hate that all the ports are wired to Nvidia GPU ( USB-Type C / HDMI / Mini DisplayPort)
- no thunderbolt. (fine)
- The USB-Type C does not support Networking.
- SSD is not stable if you are going to use it as Hackintosh . so change it or use HDD if you are interested.

Conclusion:
with the correct power adapter . this laptop is a beast for its price. you can use it for gaming or just any job. very light to take anywhere.
I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good looking laptop that can run the big games.

Does the heatpipe need to be removed to access the ram slot. I bought an 8gb version of this laptop so I would like to know. Also can you give me the make and model of the ram so I know what to buy when upgrading in the future.

ram slots are just under a metal cover not hard to remove....just use any standard ddr4 sodimm and you are fine.... try to get speed as close to 2666 as you can but even 2133 is fine but just slightly slower....

laptop has both nvme and 2.5" drive slot...

does anyone find the Y light in the back of the lid annoying?  you can't turn it off.... it lights up a dark room and also waste battery..... what kind of genius designed that lid???

I am test driving both this and the dell G5, both with similar cpu and gpu.  the dell lasts about 1.5 hr more and has usb c with TB3.  but significantly bigger size (it's basically a 15in lcd inside a 17 in size laptop) and weight.

the y7000 is smaller and a little lighter but significantly shorter battery life...also the stupid Y light in the back.... the usb type c on the Y7000 does actually output 4K 60hz even if it's not TB3....  I couldn't get the non MaxQ 1060 on the Y7000 to run any faster than the G5 MaxQ ver, so that's disappointing....

You have to take off the lid to access the additional hard drive.  I think this is a sharp looking laptop.

Does this computer have the option of a hard drive upgrade without having to remove the full back of the laptop.

A Lenovo Legion laptop with no hint of red? The Y7000 is a more mature step forward that drops the gaudy glossy look of older Lenovo gaming laptops for a smoother and more uniform narrow-bezel design. The end result is a notebook without all the bright or eccentric colors often associated with powerful gaming machines.
