@Steve Stevenson - The problem is that manufacturers have a build cycle. They can't just put out a new PC tomorrow. They need time to design it, secure parts (not just the CPU but motherboards and etc).

That said, I'm cheering for AMD, we need more competition.

@heffeque - I think they need to take a look at idle power consumption. That seems to be the area with most impact, followed by wifi performance. For some reason wifi on AMD laptops is slower while taking up more energy : /

Agreed. They need to bring in the fight into the budget "ultrabook" space as well. Lower power consumption and yet performant enough to at least kill the Celerons and Pentiums off.

This threadrippin' fad is gonna wear off by end of this year if they're not careful.

Impressive performance... and awful power consumption + poor APU driver support (compared to excellent GPU driver support IMO).

Interesting, but I see test batches of Intel CPUs circulating on the market for less than half the retail price, for example a 8700T for less than $130, those are still too competitive.

The current Intel CPU shortages, coupled with AMD's discounts on AMD parts have lead to the point where I can get a Ryzen 1600x for less than the cost of an i3 8100.
If only they were as competitive on the mobile market...
