QuoteGood thing all respectable laptops have usb c

Note that is not just "VR over USB-C". Like we see with laptops today, not all USB-C ports are capable of Thunderbolt or DisplayPort over USB-C. Those require extra components (and thus add cost), so many vendors don't add them, especially to lower cost devices.

VirtualLink will not work with existing laptops, only with future ones which have explicit VirtualLink support - meaning it will likely be restricted to only the beefier gaming laptops for the first couple of years.

I wonder if current laptops with thunderbolt 3 will be compatible since the usb c is not connected directly to the GPU like the shown MSI card.
I always wondered about vr headsets why they do not use just a usb c connection. Let's see how long until it's implemented. Good thing all respectable laptops have usb c

A single USB Type-C port may be all that's needed for a PC VR experience. VirtualLink 1.0 will define a new 'Alternate Mode' standard over the familiar USB port to hopefully reduce cable clutter associated with popular virtual reality headsets.
