For me what killed D3 was nonlinear progression every season and play from level 0 every time. Basically you can drop all your hard grinded stuff and heroes to trash. (Nearly the same as WOW but there you don't loose hero at least) Maybe that's why i prefer D2 more. D3 bring many new good and interesting item mechanics I hope to see them in D4.

On the contrary, the game has become better and better with each new patch, up to the current 2.6.1. Of course there are not many new things coming to the game, being already 6 years-old, nevertheless they are still adding new ideas like Themed Seasons.

Ya, what I meant is the game lost a good chunk of players meanwhile. I'll edit this part.

have not played D3 in probably about a year or so :D...last time I played was like season I believe was 5-6 or 6-7-8 type thing (played 3 seasons with Reaper or Souls buddy bought for me) got bored, tried ~3 months of path of exile (what a crap show that game is, play like dog meat for MANY people, even when they claim otherwise, and you cannot offer any suggestions on how to maybe make the experience better or you get told to go to hell)

Am "hoping" we see a D4 at some point in the near future, here is hoping they have an actual functional auction house this time around, and not try to monetize it AT ALL, heck just have vendors you can bring it to, and if it is valued above X % (based on its quality or whatever) you simply cannot list it, also, they absolutely need to have ability to "give" things to buddies etc instead of locking darn near everything down.

D3 is fun as hell, but at the same time they took some really good ideas, muked it up, had next to no security to back up the experience and but the fault at the players feet (making you install F2A or keyfobs to "secure your account" instead of just being secure in the first place ^.^

I just hope that they will return to Diablo 2 and allow people to play either offline or on battle.net. That was a deal breaker for me in Diablo 3.

It seems like Blizzard is feeling the pressure from games like Path of Exile, as it finally revealed that it is working on a new Diablo game though a job listing for dungeon artists. With Blizzard being so meticulous, the game could remain in development for a while, but, hopefully, it will not take another 10 years.
