Looks like Dell is taking the Apple way with no upgradability in the future.
Well , there is always choices in PC industry such as Lenovo, HP, etc. No upgradability  = No Sale !

It's really not (just) upgrades, it's basic repair(ability) for key system components.

Nope, Lenovo's clamshell - Ideapad 720s 15 (1050 Ti) and their 2 in 1 - Yoga 720 15 (1050) both have socketed RAM as well as ALL of their 15" Thinkpads regardless of price or specs. 2018 LG Gram ultrabooks - 13, 14 and 15 all thin and lights more durable than HP, Dell and Lenovo - have again managed to keep upgradable RAM.
It's also worth mentioning that the Ideapad 720s 15 and all LG Grams have Dual M.2 PCIe x4 NVMe SSD slots and TB3 PCIe x4 ports. Something regularly missing from other OEM's premium lineups.

Lenovo has begun doing it too with some of their models.

I'm deciding between this one and the new Spectre x360 15 with the same CPU-GPU specs.  I was leaning towards HP but these guys seem to be taking forever to release it so I might be temped to go for this XPS instead.

Dell's much-awaited 15-inch convertible, the XPS 15 9575, went on sale yesterday. Although Dell originally touted up to 32GB of RAM, it seems that this configuration is impossible to attain for the time being. The XPS 15 9575's RAM is all soldered, and the 32GB SKU will not be available for some time.
