I had bought i7+16gb+512ssd in august 2018, when you leave it locked screen, it shows a black or blue screen, need to long-press power button for long to restart the system, happening quite frequently nowadays. also, sometimes (not always) fan start making little noise, still bearable.

Hello, I am comparing the display brightness between the ASUS UX430U and the HP Envy 13 d000. Although notebookcheck shows UX430U is brighter, when I look side by side (I have both here), the HP Envy looks much brighter. How can we believe in the bright measurements presented here?

I have changed the stock 512gb SATA SSD that came with the UX430UN for a Samsung 960 Evo 1TB NVMe M.2 an hour after I got the new laptop out of the box. That was one year ago. I have the UX430UNR, 16gb Ram model. I'm running the latest BIOS.

The speed is about half what the 960 EVO specs should be at I guess, but it works fine otherwise.

Samsung Magician benchmark gave me (today) a Sequential Read of 1,818 MB/s and Write of 1,656 MB/s. I have a "Total Bytes Written" so far of 19.5 TB.
Oddly enough, Samsung Magician also says that the interface the SSD is running at now is PCIe Gen 3 x 4. But it is unclear (to me) if that mean from the Zenbook motherboard or if they are just saying this SSD original interface is a PCIe.

So, "it just wouldn't work", but maybe slower.

For anyone wondering, this notebook only supports SATA SSDs (FF is m.2 2280). Trying an NVMe drive won't hurt the drive or the notebook but it just wouldn't work.

I believe the "laundry list" of shortcomings the reviewer laments is derived from comparing the laptop with others that cost 1300 EUR and up, while this is under 1000 EUR.

As far as I can tell, if you want a laptop under 1000 EUR, this is the only one currently available with a decent Full-HD 14" (or bigger) IPS *matte* display with a brightness of at least 300 cd/sqm. The competition either has a glossy display (which I would never want) or a paltry brightness in the range of 250 cd/sqm (and even worse in terms of sRGB color space coverage).

"Be careful not to hit the Power button accidentally as it is adjacent to the Delete and Backspace keys"

-How to use this laptop for any kind of work that requires typing?

-What are the latest, so called, "engineers/designers" doing ?

-Why, so called "engineers/designers" can't designate a separate, dedicated Power button?

You can hardly find a "normal" notebook/laptop nowadays. :'(

Using the ASUS GPU TWEAK below will push the GPU temperature limit to 90 degrees Celsius when gaming mode is selected

Few thoughts regarding this review:

Memory frequency is 1866 MHz not 1200.

Competition is Lenovo 720s and Acer Swift 3 and that's about all. The comparison with much higher priced ultrabooks (most with smaller screens though) is misleading because obviously the UX430 misses some things or is of somewhat lower quality in certain aspects. This complain goes on during the whole review and for people who don't know how much an XPS 13 costs or even the other Asus Zenbook 3 Deluxe, it's a wrong representation of the reviewed product.

I highly doubt that there are no included extras in the top spec version since we received for the i5 8250U– MX150 machine, a nice carrying bag, a micro HDMI to full size HDMI adapter and a USB to LAN adapter.

"The surface appears to stick after each click and so inputting clicks in rapid succession is very difficult on the clickpad." Never encountered something similar.

"Outdoor visibility is average at best", again comparing to much pricier options and posting picture samples that were clearly shot with brightness under 100% since the PWN is present in those pictures.

Audio is very good, it has clarity and volume and not just from my personal experience but reading other reviews which pointed to this as being a plus. I honestly don't understand the lower score.

In this review there's not even one mention about the cooling grills which are placed discreetly under the hinge of the screen. This prevents the notebook to overheat or gather more dust if you use it in the bed or on surfaces that might obstruct the airflow. On the other hand this design decision is most likely one of the reasons why ASUS set a thermal limit of 73 C which in turn throttles the GPU.

This notebook is not advertised as a gaming machine so those disappointed didn't do a proper research before buying. While it can game with its limitations, the MX150 is a nice addition in this thin and light package for professional applications like Premiere Pro or After Effects.

It's true, games are unplayable on this laptop. They trick you into thinking it's capable of playing games but it's not. Stutters badly every few seconds due to the 73 degs thermal limit. Asus has refused to help customers as you can see from the above post.

I do not recommend this laptop at all. Do not be tricked by the MX150.

"no touchscreen, glossy, or 4K UHD options"

this is a PRO not a CON!

the throttling is terrible on this laptop and ASUS does not do anything to help their customers. If you want to do light gaming then this laptop is not for you as you will have terrible stuttering. I dont recommend it to anyone.

Portable multimedia machine. The UX430UN offers a bigger screen and faster GPU than the XPS 13 for hundreds less than the XPS 15. Its chassis and keyboard are unfortunately weaker than expected and feel cheaper to the touch.
