No one mentions the battery life of XPS 15 9570, I wonder if the battery is the same as XPS15 9560 or upgrade? the battery of XPS 15 9560 is the upgraded version of XPS 15 9550. Still waiting for the further reviews of battery life.

The Lenovo Ideapad 720s seems to have only 2gb of vram with gtx 1050ti max q, am I right ?

If the dell xps 15 9570 has only a 2gb vram gpu, I'd be so disapointed. Maybe I would buy the 9560 with a discount price...

In the US/Canada they sell a model with 4GB 1050 Ti (Max-Q), but I heard that in the UK and elsewhere it's a 2GB version.  Kind of a letdown...

5K display for the XPS 15 is overkill, but 2880 resolution that the Macbook Pro 15 uses makes more sense than even a 4K display. You can use 2880px natively on a 15 inch screen. 4K is not usable as everything is too tiny, so the next logical choice is half resolution of 1920 to keep image quality on pixel-for-pixel.

Ideapad 720s 15 has GTX 1050 Ti with 4GB GDDR5 VRam. Their 2 in 1 convertible laptop Yoga 720 15 (which for more popular for some weird reason) is the non Max-Q GTX 1050 model with 2 / 4GB GDDR5. 720s 15 is a new clamshell model that was released about half a year after the yoga with some major updates to compete with the XPS 15 9560.

And please be sure to clarify the names "ideapad" or "yoga" and their screen sizes because there are 5 total  8th gen CPU models: Ideapad 720s - 13 (iGPU), 14 (MX150) and 15"(1050 Ti), and Yoga 720 - 13 (iGPU) and 15" (1050).

Lenovo does an excellent job of detailing specifications for all of its former and current PCs at psref.lenovo.com. This is another thing I appreciate about Lenovo, which is that they have the most organized online marketing, support and product lookup websites of any PC manufacturer, albeit some minor gripes. Software support even on older models is extremely responsive and completely integrated unlike Dell, HP or Asus. Although aftermarket hardware support may vary from region to person, their online community forum and social media response is solid as well, again pretty much dead from other major OEMs.

XPS 15 was not designed for gaming and for now, Dell or any other OEM has no intention of making "the perfect" performance + portability laptop, because Profits. Deal with it. If you want to game, get a gaming laptop.

Second, matt anti-glare screen protectors are available for glossy screens. They're not all high quality though, so try out a few ones and be wary of cheap ripoffs that scratch easy.

Lastly, I can also vouch for Lenovo Ideapad 720s 15 with 1050 Ti and not just for its performance, which is only ~5% off a non Max-Q variant. Cooling is excellent as the chassis can easily handle overclocking with MSI Afterburner, unlike the Zenbook Pro UX550UE which still throttled heavily after mods.

But what really impressed me was the hardware. Build quality is on par with XPS / Spectre and much better than Zenbook / Aero. I actually prefer 720s' keyboard and touchpad to the XPS 9560. FHD screen on 720s is equal to XPS in terms of colors, contrast and brightness, although if I had to guess the 4K UHD screen on Dell is probably better than Lenovo's. Battery is 79 Wh and lasts around 7.5 hours which is a bit less than XPS's 9 hours but bearable since there's a second M.2-2280 NVMe storage slot. Also not that it really matters but TB3 port is PCIe x4 unlike x2 on the XPS.

What really sold me though was the price compared to the XPS or anything else. My config is a $1,200 base i7 model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD but with Lenovo's discount I got it for $900. Now returned XPS 15 9560 cost me $1,600 with the discount and for worse dGPU and storage.
So unless you want its 4K touchscreen, stick with Lenovo. But if you want the best quality screens and money isn't an issue, SB2 13/15 or MBP 15 are far better options than XPS.

Really disappointing to hear that the Dell Xps 15 refresh will be less capable than the Aero 15x or even the Surface Book 2. I had been holding out for quite awhile to purchase a new laptop, hoping Dell could deliver the goods, shame to hear the news. Looks like I'll be waiting on the Volta refresh of the Razer Blade/ Razer Blade Pro... although I hear QC is pretty shabby on Razer products :/

Why don't there exist more laptops with high resolution glossy touch-screens and high-end GPUs? I cannot fathom how anyone can comfortably consume media/ create content on a matte display; the graininess is just abhorrent. I understand matte screens are meant to reduce glare, but the drawback it has on visual clarity and color vibrancy is far too detrimental imho.

"Dell also hinted at the possibility of the XPS 15 9570 featuring a 5K display option [..]"

No, it did not. You are now confusing a hint actually coming from Dell with a totally unconfirmed rumor by a random guy at the Internet. A rumor that has already been found untrue regarding to the GTX 1060 part, hence quite probably completely fake.

It's more than good enough for casual gaming.  It can handle newer games on medium / high settings and still maintain 50+ FPS.

FIFA 18 should be no problem for it... looking at the benchmarks for it and the 1050 Ti, it will probably get about 80-90 FPS at 1440P.

Thanks a lot guys.

I only need a gpu for casual gaming. Do you think it's enough for fifa 18 in a 1440p external screen ?

I have the Lenovo IdeaPad 720S with the 1050 Ti Max-Q... it's definitely better than the 1050.  My laptop scored 7220 on Firestrike graphics (7460 after tweaking), which is roughly 20% faster than the average 1050.

The 1050 Ti Max-Q is about 8% slower than an average 1050 Ti laptop.  At least with Lenovo's implementation.  The advantage is that heat and fan noise is kept to a minimum, even with a thin chassis.

Hi ! Is the 1050ti max-q better than the 1050 of the 9560 ?
Do you think that a 1060 max-q is impossible ?
Hi klezmer45,
The 1050 Ti does have a noticeably higher performance than the 1050 but the MaxQ version will have a 10-15% performance hit. So yes, it should be better than the 1050 of the 9560 but its real world performance will also be influenced by other factors such as chassis thickness and power management policies.

A 1060 MaxQ is definitely feasible. But given the design of the notebook and the use of a 6C CPU (even though it is still rated at 45W), it would be safer to go with a 1050 Ti. Dell can still spring us a surprise here so I'm still curious as to how it all turns out.

Cheers!
