There is certainly a change in how Android One is being positioned. With it now coming on mid-range (and one high-end) handsets, it is starting to be positioned more like the Google Play Edition phones and tablets of a few years ago (e.g. Samsung Galaxy S4 GPE, HTC One M7 GPE).

For several years now there have been complaints about Android software updates and the associated security risks. Perhaps this is the first steps towards fixing that, even if that wasn't Google's intention with the Android One programme.

So android Go is the old android One and android one is pretty much delayed nexus/pixel. Well at least you get certainty in update compared to buying update-once-in-a-blue-moon phone

Finnish company, HMD Global, has announced the new Nokia 8 Sirocco, the first flagship phone to be part of 'Android One.' Internal specs remain mostly identical, but the design has been revamped with impressively small bezels for a phone that retains the 16:9 aspect ratio.
