I bought the i5 version of this laptop a year ago. It was running super smoothly for the first 3 months or so and I was really happy with the performance. Then gradually, I started noticing fan noises, and occasional Bluescreen errors, which happened especially when it's on power cord. By month 6, the bluescreen error happened more frequently and had to factory reset the laptop. Then on month 11, the same issue happened again. I talked about it with my 2 friends who also happen to own the same device, and they reported that they have the same problem too. I've also seen other issues of this laptop on internet forums, so, really if you are looking for a reliable laptop, don't buy this one.

I own the Notebook Pro i7 but with 8Gb edition and for anyone wondering about coil whine: it is pretty hearable even if you're like an armlength away from it.

You forgot to edit this:

QuoteUnfortunately, Xiaomi still only offers a 256-GB SSD in the i7 model, which is only connected via two lanes.

the number of cores are equal (physical and logical) but the amount of cash are not.
the excess L3 cash of 8550 cause a little more heat and that little heat (on the same cooling system) cause a little performance drop in Cinebench multi result ;D
why not in single mode?
because the cooling system can handle that

Looks like we were wrong on the 2 lanes, we already got the fixed BIOS and as you can see in the CDM 5 tests, the SSD was getting more than 3000 MB/s. Rating was not influenced, will change the text soon.
Thanks for the feedback.

As for the SSD using only 2 PCIe lanes, this is supposed to be fixed since two months ago (see news on NotebookCheck from 2017/12/06). Did you get an old model or is the fix not working?

The Chinese original. Xiaomi notebooks are still considered a rarity in Europe and have to be imported from Asia. Not having the opportunity of looking at the device beforehand at your trusted local store, plus the additional effort of making warranty claims etc., makes it all the more important to read reviews of imported products before making your final decision. Notebookcheck has therefore decided that after reviewing the Intel Core i5-8250U version, we would now also take a look at the model with the stronger Intel Core i7-8550U. In this review we have focused mainly on the device's performance and its differences to the other model that we have already tested.
