Anyone know when the next generation of XPS 15 will come out? Early 2018?

I dont think the 1070 will be coming to the XPS line this time around. The XPS 15 is not a gaming laptop and although a1070 would be nice for productivity on a 5k screen it really isnt necessary. There are much cheaper computers that 'gamers' can buy, plus if those said gamers wanted to spend a little more they could get a high refresh rate panel with g-sync on their laptop, i dont see why a gamer would choose this machine. I play the occasional games, but i do have yet to play it on my XPS 9560. I will most likely upgrade to the 9570 as if the rumors are true about the 8700HQ I want in!

Also although i really like my 4k panel on my XPS laptop, I don't know if its really needed. I find myself scaling all of windows up, dont get me wrong the pixels are great but..... I don't know if I need it.  Also the amount of extra battery life could really come in handy sometimes.

This is just my .02. I did read that dell may be working on a touch bar of their own, do i think it will be in the 2018 XPS, no, but i do believe with the feedback apple is getting they may make something along those lines.

Finally I know the rework will be in 2019 but does anyone else find that the XPS 15 seems to always be covered in finger prints. I wash my hands a lot and still i find it with the little smudges, which i do not like. I almost wish they used the same metal at the outside of the laptop inside. The feel of the 'carbon fiber' is nice.

Finally do you think with the 2018 getting an additional Type-C port it will get rid of the old charging method and use the usb C as a charging port? Also will we get a NIC back, and does anyone miss having a NIC on their laptop? I have it on a dongle but I really love the fact that on the XPS 15 i really don't need a dongle.

I think Dell would introduce the nvidia 1060 probably only on a revision model. I believe the new XPS 9570 could offer the Nvidia 1070 MaxQ 8GB or a newer GPU. The rivals Gigabyte Aero 15X and Asus Rogue Zephyrus are already offering 1070 MaxQ 8GB in a sleek design. So introducing a Nvidia 1060 will make the new XPS 9570 only inferior in the competition. Does anyone know how the new MaxQ is in terms of performance? Is anyone using a MaxQ notebook as a daily driver ? Thanks.

I think this one's gonna be the 1060 Max-Q, not the 1070 Max-Q. There are two reason, first I dont see Dell aiming those targets at Aero 15X and Zephyrus, and instead they will provide competition to their market now which includes upcoming Surface Book with GTX 1060 (not sure max-q or not but i suppose it's a max-q), Macbook Pro, and HP Spectre or Envy. Second, the barebone might need total internal redesign to fit a normal GTX 1060, but if it does fit normal GTX 1060, then 1070 Max-Q can be inside too.

I don't have a GTX 1070 Max-Q equipped laptop, but my colleagues have reviewed both the Gigabyte Aero 15X and Asus Zephyrus GX501 that you mentioned, so there are performance, temperature, and noise results in those links.

Paul - I've been surprised at how few manufacturers bother offering 1440p options. Over the last few years I had expected more 1440p screens in the upper-end configurations (e.g. GTX 1070), where 60 fps at 4K isn't practical in some titles and where games in the next year or two might make this more so. With 4K being so prevalent now, I'm wondering if we won't see wide scale 1440p until it becomes the base configuration (i.e. replaces 1080p)

Alex - Nose cam is horrible... Maybe we need a notch a la Essential Phone or iPhone X? :)

If it's TB3 x4 instead of x2 this would be perfect for single cable eGPU solution too.

Just please please change the stupid position of the webcam to the top of the screen and have upward facing speakers and I'll be happy.

A 1440p option which I prefer over 4K would be nice, good enough for most users and consumers rather than 4K. If larger than a 15" then yeah it'll be great to have a 4K option. But 1440p over 15" is not so overkill.

A user on Reddit was browsing the XPS 15 section of the Dell Canada website, where they claim to have seen some important specifications such as the inclusion of a GTX 1060 option, QHD+ (touch enabled) and 5K screens, and the apparent absence of 4K.
