The "modern" laptop designers/engineers are making some great mistakes by ignoring the programmers and serious users, regarding:

- on/off button integrated into the keyboard as a key (MISTAKE)
- no ports on the back of the laptop (MISTAKE)
- miniature navigational up/down/left/right buttons (MISTAKE)
- no dedicated PageUp/PageDn buttons (MISTAKE)

Not everyone is using the laptop in the bed !

I have the impression that this is one of the best offerings, if you are after a maximum screen size laptop for multimedia/surfing and office. Definitely on the shortlist when my wife replaces her old laptop ...

This would be a great laptop to use for coding on the go, due to its relative light weight and bright display.  I am hoping that Acer releases a version with AMD's new APU next year - I would definitely purchase that.

Good review.  I gleaned a few things from it and had a few questions.

It appears to ship with a SATA III SSD.  Is the slot NVMe capable?

With 20GB max possible, is it 4 GB soldered on with up to 16 GB addable in the SODIMM slot?  And is this a single or dual channel memory config?

Did you get to look at the A515 at all?  Do you think we could expect similar results just in smaller case?

And lastly, we should be able to upgrade to an Intel 8265 wifi and get normal performance, correct?

Thanks!

Fit primarily for work! The new Aspire 5 is based on Intel's 8th-gen Core series. On top of that, the 17-incher offers a dedicated graphics card. Unfortunately, it will only manage to impress casual gamers. In this review, you will learn how well the new CPU generation stacks up against the old guard.
